The Espace Louis Vuitton Osaka presents an
exhibition dedicated to major artist Isaac Julien as part of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’ s “Hors-les-murs programme. This exhibition displays Isaac Julien s installation, Ten Thousand Waves (2010), belonging to the Collection. This huge video installation that stages a polyphony of actors, places and periods in a tribute to Chinese culture, is presented by nine screens.
The film lasts about 50 minutes.

Artist Profile

Isaac Julien

Sir Isaac Julien is a British artist, born in 1960 in London, United Kingdom, and whose parents migrated to Britain from Saint-Lucia in the West Indies. He graduated from the Saint Martin’ s School of Art in 1984, receiving a BA in Fine-Art film. He was one of the leaders of a movement of English filmmakers in the mid-1980s that used video as an activist medium. He has received many awards including the Semaine de la Critique Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize at the Kunstfilm Biennale, and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2001. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and was knighted.

The Espace Louis Vuitton Osaka is an art venue located on the fifth floor of Maison Louis Vuitton Osaka Midosuji exclusively devoted to the exhibitions organized in the framework of the specific “Hors-les-murs” programme developed by the Fondation Louis Vuitton, a cultural and artistic French institution dedicated to contemporary art, artists, and the works that inspired them. This ongoing programme presenting the artworks from its Collection unfolds at the Espace Louis Vuitton located in Tokyo, Munich, Venice, Beijing, Seoul and Osaka, with the goal of bringing the Collection to a broad audience around the world.
