Maito Otake
Weave, Connect, Open
Maito Otake is an artist who creates hollow, three-dimensional sculptures by hand-knitting fabric. Situated at a central urban hub where subway lines intersect, this work emerges as a symbol that weaves together time, memory, and culture while resonating with the flow of the city and its people, connecting them to the future.
Maito Otake
Born in Tokyo. Completed the Doctoral Program (PhD) in the Sculpture Department at Tokyo University of the Arts.
Through the generation of objects structured by specific systems, the artist materializes “action.” The work is carried out according to predetermined rules; by repeatedly following these instructions, the artist treats their own body as if it were a tool.
