As MARUNI WOOD INDUSTRY’s new endeavor, kupu sauna is born. After nearly a century of crafting furniture in Hiroshima, we turned back to Japan’s forests to ask how domestic coniferous woods—hinoki and cedar—could be used beyond furniture-making. The answer came through a collaboration with ONE SAUNA, a pioneer of Japan’s sauna culture. Designed by product designer Wataru Kumano, who has experienced Finnish sauna culture firsthand, kupu sauna is conceived as a space that elevates the quality of life. From the gentle scent of hinoki to the play of light and the quiet hush within, every detail is considered. We invite you to enjoy kupu sauna’s refined, restorative space—one where you can truly feel the richness of wood.

Kupu sauna

“kupu” is a Finnish word meaning “dome” or “covering.” True to its name, kupu sauna features an iconic half-dome form that gently embraces the body. To complement this distinctive silhouette, we chose Japanese hinoki cypress, valued for its beauty and aroma. Reimagining the traditional barrel sauna for today, kupu sauna achieves a refined balance of function and design—a Japan-original sauna crafted from locally sourced materials, born from the unique perspective of a furniture maker.

Under the supervision of art director Naoto Fukasawa, the store interior, composed mainly of the MARUNI COLLECTION, has a spacious and warm atmosphere with natural light softly streaming in through the large windows and high ceiling. We also have a wide variety of lifestyle tools to color your life that correspond to our furniture and make your daily life more beautiful and enriching.
