Special Exhibition
Akira Taniguchi & Sacco Arai: A Duo Exhibition “Beyond the Gaze” Held concurrently with the ART BOOK POP UP FAIR, this exhibition features two promising young artists.

Akira Taniguchi, who integrates his indelible Oriental sensibility into the context of Western art, and Sacco Arai, who uses Japanese painting techniques to depict scenes reminiscent of American movies. As if they had crossed each other through opposite doors. The characters in Arai’s works seem to have before them the light and clouds drawn by Taniguchi and the ever-changing elements, and it can be said that finding eternity within and feeling the totality of time behind them are the common charms of these two artists, who transcend East and West.

Artist Profile

Akira Taniguchi

Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, in 1993. Taniguchi completed postgraduate studies in painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He creates his paintings with an awareness of the oriental sensibility that exists within him, despite his involvement with Western art, which he discovered through his studies in Australia and Malta. He now lives by a small lake called Teganuma, where the wind, the waves, and the light reflecting off them are very beautiful. Water, sky, and light are also keywords in his work.

Sacco Arai

Born in Kyoto in 1999, Arai graduated from the Japanese Painting Department of Tama Art University in 2023 and immediately began a master’s degree program in art research at the same university’s graduate school. She arranges the figures in her Japanese paintings by combining imaginary spaces of her own creation with images from movies and magazines. Rather than directly depicting her own experiences and the emotions that arise from them, she creates works from a perspective that distances itself from subjective experience by depicting the world outside herself.
