This is an exhibition of paintings by Taku Shinyama. He is dedicated to expressing in his work depictions of the sublime spirit and energy of the mountains, as he experiences them while climbing. To do this, he expresses the rocky surfaces using thick daubs of natural mineral pigments, applied with sensitive artistic skill.
- Prayer -
“I am immersed in the prospect of depicting a mountain as a totality of existence. By closing my eyes and returning to the memory of my encounter with the mountain, I am able to place the mountain in the center of my being, not as a solid entity but as a dynamic phenomenon. When I realized what I was doing, I began to spend more time praying to each mountain than painting it.”
