We hold a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Takahiro Koga, his first in Japan since expanding into the United States. Koga’s focus on the aesthetic sense of “admiring imperfection” in Japanese culture can be seen not only in the wabi-sabi style of simplicity, but can also be glimpsed in the flashy kabuki costumes and kawaii culture such as anime. His works are based on his concept of “neo wabi-sabi,” which encompasses the ideas of a culture of simple stillness and a culture of flashy motion. Approximately 150 items will be on display, including noted works such as beckoning cats and owls, a new series of carps, and the standard sake vessels.

Artist Profile

Takahiro Koga

Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1987. His work is not bound by the framework of a ceramic artist, as it includes collaborations with musicians and famous brands. In 2023, he exhibited at the huge SCOPE Miami Beach 2023 art fair in the US, where his works attracted attention. He has also exhibited at New York’s NowHere Gallery.
