Re-Mirroring Matter

dates
5/28 thu. - 6/14 sun.
hours
11:00-21:00
location
CRYSTA Nagahori South side of the Cascade Plaza

By casting everyday objects into elaborate "molds," the artist re-establishes the very existence of things. In a modern age saturated with information and where every phenomenon is veiled by symbols, this process deconstructs the preconceived notion of a "familiar world." The venue features a lightbulb work that incorporates a waterfall as borrowed scenery, alongside familiar objects standing in the plaza. Gazing into the transparent resin, the landscape before you inverts, revealing a scene that re-mirrors reality—like a waterfall flowing backward.

Nobuaki Onishi

Artist and Professor of Printmaking at Kyoto City University of Arts. Nobuaki Onishi vividly illustrates the gap between material reality and our perception by using printmaking techniques to cast the surfaces of ready-made objects in resin. From a Mini Cooper and tetrapods to lightbulbs, withered branches, and balloons that fit in the palm of your hand, he defamiliarizes the mundane elements of our daily lives.
