The artist has lived in Singapore for a decade. Though it means “Lion City,” the name is said to come from mistaking a wild tiger for a lion. The five years before that in Kobe are colored by memories of Hanshin Tigers games. In A Tiger Swimming Through the Rings of Rokko (the Rokko Mountains), the range becomes gigantic tree rings, and a tiger crossing them ties personal time to local history.
