Globally acclaimed master of sumi abstract art, Toko Shinoda.
Her refined lines and masterful use of negative space create a world of abstraction that continues to captivate audiences across generations and borders.

This exhibition presents approximately 20 works, including original paintings and unique lithographs enhanced with hand coloring.

Artist 

Toko Shinoda

Born in Dalian, former Manchuria, in 1913, she soon moved to Tokyo. In addition to calligraphy, she developed a unique artistic style combining ink abstraction with classical poetry.

From the 1970s to 2007, she produced more than 315 lithographs as original editions published by the Tolman Collection. Her works are widely collected by private collectors and museums around the world.

She passed away in March 2021 at the age of 107.
