Takashimaya Archives Exhibition Room
In the latter half of the 19th century, known as the "Exposition Era." Takashimaya exhibited "art textiles" at domestic and international expositions, in which artists drew sketches and artisans used dyeing and weaving techniques (embroidery, dyeing, and weaving) to create pictures. At the time, these were mainly exported products, so there are only a few examples remaining in Japan. This exhibition brings together over 50 pieces "made by Takashimaya" from the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Kiyomizu Sannenzaka Museum, and Takashimaya Historical Museum. Be sure to check out the unparalleled Japanese handicrafts that once fascinated the world.

Takashimaya Archives

Takashimaya Archives, located in the Takashimaya East Annex, an important cultural property, is a facility that houses and exhibits approximately 50,000 items from a wide variety of genres since the store's founding. It hosts a permanent exhibition introducing the history of the department store, as well as special exhibitions based on various themes. There are also plenty of digital exhibits, such as a tactile timeline and large touch-screen monitors.
