This is a relief featuring a peacock. The peacock is the symbol of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store, originally designed by William Merrell Vories. When work on designing the store’s symbol began, the staff planned to use the “Phoenix” to represent the Store, but for some reason what they developed turned out to be a “peacock”. Influenced by this story, Kohei Nawa created this collaborative work with a Buddhist sculptor in Kyoto.
